For my family, we would use Sapphire, Amethyst and Topaz. Since there are so many colors of sapphire, a few of amethyst and several topaz, this could be a lovely combination for a very personal piece.
Gemstones for the Days of the Week
Another idea is to try out a gemstone that matches the day of the week that you were born. A nice family style piece would include gems from each day of the week of you, your children, and so on.

Jewelry Ideas:
To have a special romantic piece, you can use your birthstones, plus one from the month you met, or got engaged, or got married.
Or, you could have a uniquely yours piece with your birthstone, zodiac stone and weekday stone. It might work out. Mine would have diamonds, sapphires and topaz. I’d do it white/clear, blue and pink.
There are so many possibilities besides just using your own stone.
